Yesterday, Ohioans voted—with huge turnout for an August special election—to preserve the democratic process for amending the state constitution. Voters rejected a measure that would have raised the threshold for passing citizen-led amendments from a simple majority to 60% of the vote. This is great news for democracy in Ohio, and I am so deeply proud of the letter writing this community undertook to encourage voters to turn out!
Earlier this year when the August special election was set, we heard from so many of you with requests to write letters to Ohio voters. Then, over the past few months since we launched our campaign—our first-ever focusing on a ballot initiative—more than 7,300 letter writers sent more than 281,000 letters to women voters in Ohio encouraging them to vote.
I’m so grateful for this community’s commitment to getting involved in Ohio from the moment the election was announced all the way through our mail deadline last week!
I hope you’re feeling even more motivated to protect democracy in other critical elections this year and next, starting with the Virginia General Assembly elections this November, when every seat will be up for election. There are still many letters to be written this year, and we’ll need to work together to reach as many voters as we can!
Thank you, as always, for your commitment to this work.
