The Good News: Filtration Works!
An update on AB 1628 (McKinnor)

Our research ([link removed]) shows that washing machine filters are a proven solution that can dramatically reduce the amount of microfibers entering the environment. 5 Gyres is co-sponsoring AB 1628 (McKinnor) ([link removed]) , which would require microfiber filters on new washing machines sold in California by 2029, and we're making progress! Our Director of Science & Innovation, Dr. Erdle, testified in Sacramento ([link removed]) last month, where the bill passed the Senate Environmental Quality Committee. It's now heading to the CA Senate Appropriations Committee. Send an email in support of the bill ([link removed]) !

Join 5 Gyres in Yosemite

For the second year, we're partnering with Yosemite Climbing Association to collect data at Yosemite Facelift for our Plastic-Free Parks ([link removed]) project. We invite YOU to join us! Register for the event ([link removed]) , and then reach out (mailto:[email protected]?subject=Yosemite%20Facelift%20Volunteer) if you'd like to help us with data collection on-site. Last year, nearly 15,000 pounds of trash were collected from the park, so we need all the help we can get!

Partner Bulletin
* Sway ([link removed]) officially joined our team as a Cause Partner! Given our current work vetting innovation and plastic alternatives in various sectors, we're excited about the potential of Sway's regenerative packaging made from seaweed.

* Insight Global joined us in piloting the very first OfficeBlitz, a spinoff of our TrashBlitz program ([link removed]) to identify data-informed solutions that reduce waste in corporate cultures. Interested in finding out your company's waste footprint and accessing real solutions? Email Sara (mailto:[email protected]?subject=OfficeBlitz) for more details!
