AUSTIN PREMIERE

After The Metropolitan Opera had been shuttered for over a year, the renowned institution reopened with the first work in its 138 years written by a Black composer. The seven-time Grammy Award winner (recently named a 2024 Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts) brings this masterwork to Austin in a concert production that will feature excerpts from the opera performed by the composer, an ensemble of string and jazz musicians, and two guest singers.
