Say NO to tyranny, say NO to Lapeer County Animal Control's proposed ordinance!

Rachel Horton, Chief of Lapeer County Animal Control, is waging war against the inalienable rights of Lapeer County residents. Her proposed ordinance would violate the rights of property owners, and would turn the LCAC into a "Gestapo" type force designed to harass and target animal owners in the county. Her proposed ordinance would be in direct violation of the Bill of Rights, Fourth Amendment.

Thankfully, Lapeer County finally has some constitutional county commissioners with backbones, and they are now a target of Rachel Hortons social media smear campaign.

Rachel Horton is the daughter of Republican County Commissioner Bryan Zender. Although it is not legally required for him to abstain from votes involving LCAC, it would show that he is not biased to the liberal campaign against Lapeer County residents. These presented ordinance changes are not in line with our Republican views, and would violate our inalienable, Constitutional rights. We should question our support of any commissioner that would be in favor of this blatant governmental overreach.

Please come to the Board of Commissioners meeting to support Commissioners Kohlman, Mast, Hamilton, Knisley, and Howell this Thursday, August 10th, 9AM at the Lapeer County Complex building, to tell Chief Horton and Commissioner Zender that we will not tolerate any more infringements on our rights. This ordinance isn't about actual "dangerous animals", it's about giving more power to the power hungry. Stay off OUR property Chief Horton!

(Here are some examples from the proposed ordinance)

Article V
An Animal Control Officer may impound and hold at the Animal Control facility any of the
following:
1. Unlicensed dogs; (will the LCAC check every dog in the county without search warrants?)
2. Dogs that are running at large or that are not on a leash or lead while off the
owner’s property.
3. Stray, unwanted, abandoned, or abused animals;
4. Animals which the owner or custodian of is not able to care for properly as a
result of illness, incapacity or indigency.
5. Any Animal that meets the definition of a dangerous animal, vicious animal, wild
animal or exotic animal.
C.) Private Property - An Animal Control Officer under exigent circumstances is authorized
to rescue any animal on any property, public, or private in conjunction with the fulfillment of the
duties and responsibilities in this ordinance where probable cause exists to believe a distressed
or endangered animal is in need of immediate care, control, or custody. No person shall refuse
to permit the Animal Control Officer after proper identification, to inspect any premises in
accordance with MCLA 750.54 ( only identification is needed to inspect [search] property? This usurps the Judicial branch of government by not requiring a warrant)
