Have you ever had to pay a junk fee? Junk fees are hidden, or surprise charges are often added right at the end of transactions – and they cost American consumers tens of billions of dollars each year. Junk fees are frequently found in banking, utility service, cell and cable service, travel, and entertainment transactions– but they can appear just about anywhere.
I am working to put an end to these unfair practices. Several of my Congressional colleagues and I are collecting powerful stories reinforcing the need for action, and this is where you come in. I want to hear from you if you’ve run into surprise fees when buying tickets online, such as “family seating” fees, “early termination” fees, or “surprise resort” fees.
Reply to this E-newsletter to share your own personal stories of encountering junk fees.
President Biden himself has expressed his determination to tackle this issue. In his State of the Union address earlier this year, and again just a few days ago, he made his commitment to banning junk fees clear.
Junk fees are nothing more than a tax imposed by greedy corporations, and it's time to fight back. Reply to share how junk fees have personally impacted you.
I will ensure a fair and transparent marketplace for all Americans.
Sincerely
Sylvia R. Garcia
Member of Congress
