Hi JOHN,
Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act - passed and signed into law August 2022 - makes nearly 3.5 million Veterans across the country eligible, right now, for the care and benefits they earned. The PACT Act expands the list of health conditions that are presumed to be caused by toxic exposure. This change eliminated administrative roadblocks to getting the care needed for veterans suffering from chronic conditions and disease as a result of exposure to burn pits, Agent Orange, Gulf War toxins, and radiation.
The expanded the list of presumptive health conditions include, but are not limited to:
- Brain cancer
- Gastrointestinal cancer of any type
- Pancreatic cancer
- Reproductive cancer of any type
- Asthma that was diagnosed after service
- High blood pressure
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Interstitial lung disease (ILD)
- Pulmonary fibrosis
- Sarcoidosis
To see the full list of presumptive conditions and other eligibility requirements, please visit HERE. Veterans – and their survivors – need to file a claim by August 9, 2023 to receive all the benefits they are entitled to.
PACT Act-related claims submitted by August 9 will be eligible for back pay from August 10, 2022, so eligible Veterans are encouraged to file their claims as soon as possible. Veterans and their families can find more information on PACT Act benefits by visiting VA.gov/pact or by calling1-800-MyVA411 (1-800-698-2411) (TTY: 711).
