[1]Ayanna Pressley

In case you missed it, last week, Boston was home to the 114th NAACP
National Convention, and Ayanna welcomed attendees with a love letter to
Black Boston and a call for transformational policies that can create
change in a city still grappling with a history of racial challenges.

Boston’s Black community is brilliant. It is innovative. It is powerful.
And our city has come a long way on the path towards equity and justice,
but we know there is more work to be done.

As Ayanna told the crowd, we must come together and recommit ourselves to
the movement, to keep fighting for the bold, transformational policies
necessary to change and save Black lives – in Boston and everywhere.

* Closing the racial wealth gap through policies like student debt
relief and baby bonds;
* Reducing the Black maternal mortality rate;
* Promoting homeownership and providing more affordable housing;
* Eliminating barriers to transportation through free public transit;
* Addressing structural racism as a public health crisis.

As the first Black woman elected to represent the MA-07 in Congress,
Ayanna is carrying forward the legacy of Black activists, advocates, and
community leaders in Boston who have been on the front lines, doing the
work to advance racial justice for the people of this district, this
Commonwealth, and this country as a whole.

Together, we can write the next chapter of the civil rights movement and
deliver a better future for all Americans.
