In August 1965, the Voting Rights Act was signed into law, outlawing the discriminatory voting practices adopted in many southern states after the Civil War.
But in 2013, the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, ushering in hundreds of laws nationwide that suppressed the right to vote.
We need laws that protect our right to vote and make voting more accessible.
That’s why CREW supports the Freedom to Vote Act. Sign our petition to Congress, urging them to pass the Freedom to Vote Act. Sign the petition to pass the Freedom to Vote Act →

John,
No matter who you are and where you live, your vote should matter. That includes Black, brown, young and new Americans, who for too long have encountered barriers to this basic right.
Now more than ever, we need legislation that would expand the right to vote.
The Freedom to Vote Act would limit the influence of big money in politics, modernize our voting system, ensure districts are drawn with fair representation and protect all Americans' right to vote.
Congress has reintroduced the landmark Freedom to Vote Act. This week marks the 58th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, and we think it’s past time to pass this law to strengthen voting rights.
