Team –
It’s been 58 years since the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, protecting voting rights for millions of Americans.
However, in recent years, we’ve seen the slow-motion erosion of democracy and freedoms – including our right to vote. In 2013 we witnessed the Supreme Court dismantle critical provisions of the Voting Rights Act, paving the way for partisan gerrymandering.
Shockingly, in 2022 alone, eight states enacted 11 laws restricting voting rights. Today, I'm asking for your help to stand up and fight back to protect our democracy.
My parents grew up under communism. Democracy has always been real to me. And I know every generation must defend it – and expand it. That’s what brought me to work as a White House aide, sign up to serve in the military after 9/11, and actually start a magazine called “Democracy.”
Recent years have borne witness to an upsurge of anti-voter measures across states, some even going so far as to criminalize providing water to people waiting in line to cast their ballots. Let me be clear: These statutes are designed to create obstacles for voters and to curtail their voices in our democratic process.
I need your help to fight back. Your contribution will help fuel our campaign and allow us to promote the ideals that are crucial to our democracy. Can you chip in $3, $30, or more today?
Thank you,
– Andrei
