Visiting Burke County
Last week, I spent the day catching up with constituents in Burke County. It was great to start my day at Western Piedmont Community College, where I toured the new Regional Skilled Trades Solutions Center.
This facility is home to WPCC’s Building Construction & Technology program and will serve our entire region as a training hub for the construction, plumbing, masonry, heavy equipment operation, and mechanical trades. Thanks to President Dr. Joel Welch and his entire team for hosting me.
Afterwards, I enjoyed a great conversation with Burke County Chamber of Commerce members. After providing a Washington update, I was able to field questions from those in attendance.
I am honored to serve western North Carolina and appreciate the contribution these community leaders make to our entire region. Thanks to Chamber President Tonia Stephenson and the entire chamber staff for putting on such a wonderful event.
Next up, I was off to the Phifer Family YMCA in Morganton. This facility is a welcome addition to Burke County, and I appreciate the countless impactful initiatives they are undertaking to strengthen the community. Thanks to Nat Auten, President of the YMCA of Catawba Valley, and the Board Members who share this vision.
Later that day, I was able to visit UNC Health Blue Ridge and witness firsthand how they serve our community. I particularly appreciated the conversation on how federal policy impacts rural healthcare and enjoyed seeing construction progress on the new tower. Thanks to CEO Kathy Bailey and the entire UNC Health Blue Ridge team for all they do for the region.
Lastly, I closed out my day in Burke County with Commission Vice Chair Jeff Brittain, Commissioner Johnnie Carswell and Manager Brian Epley. It was great to hear more about the initiatives the county is undertaking to move the community forward. Thank you for your service and for taking time to give me an update.
