Dear Friend, I’ve just heard an inspiring story from a colleague in Kenya that really demonstrates the impact your support is having and I wanted to share it with you to brighten up your Tuesday. Life has been challenging for Judith. Her husband died in 2013 leaving her with four children to look after. The land she was using for growing fruit and vegetables was taken in a family dispute and she wasn't able to grow anything. In order to provide food for her family and pay school fees, Judith ended up working for other people for a very small wage. This money wasn't enough and often she couldn't afford to send her children to school or pay for a doctor if anyone in the family got sick After Judith joined Enterprising Migori, a Ripple Effect project in rural Kenya, she was supported with training in organic farming so she could grow more abundant crops plus how to look after her animals. Judith was elected as the Peer Farmer Trainer (PFT) for the group. A PFT is a volunteer who has made incredible progress on their own farm and starts to provide training and support to other farmers, ensuring the ripple effect of positive change continues. Joining a Ripple Effect project provided the opportunity for Judith to save within a savings group and she was able to buy her own land, where she grows lots of produce and provides nutritious food for her family and with a surplus left over to sell.
