Community Call to Action Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 8th!

?

?

Greetings Community,

?
I write to inform you about two upcoming?mobilizations tomorrow, Tuesday 8/8, at County Board of Supervisors and City Council.?As you'll read, we know that it will be easy for you to understand that these issues are very connected and the crux of why our community lives in such crisis and austerity.?
?
Action 1-
Tuesday 8/8 at 2pm at Board of Supervisors- The board of supervisors will hear many items on homelessness and their efforts at Jail Expansion. The items beginning at 2pm are where many will mobilize to, but thought it was important to share the intersectional items on the earlier calendar as well.?
?

Mobilization at 2pm-??Here is our?toolkit?and please use this?one click?to send an email to the BOS before tomorrow.?PLEASE EMAIL, CALL, AND SHOW UP TO THE MEETING IN PERSON OR VIA PHONE.

  • 2:15pm?Item 48-? They will be voting to solidify their contract with Nacht & Lewis for this project, the architecture firm that said it was the only option while they knew they would profit from this project continuing.
  • 2:30pm?Item 49- The BOS is planning to vote on a resolution that would "declare official intent" to get a $950+ Million dollar Bond/Loan for their Main Jail Expansion project.?
If we spend over a billion dollars on a jail expansion, then we will never see the investment we need in housing, services, or access to choice and opportunity that we know make healthier, more vibrant, and safer communities. Which brings me to action 2.
?
Action 2-
Tuesday 8/8 at 5pm City Council Off Agenda-?The City Council has an encampment on Alhambra and W St. slated for sweep on 8/9. Currently, the city is under a?Temporary Restraining Order?from sweeping due to weather conditions, but have been seen violating this order in the last week. To ensure the City does not violate the rights of this Camp, community will be mobilizing to say stop the sweeps, and support this camp in ways that support their right to self-determination and to get into compliance with City Code.?PLEASE EMAIL, CALL, AND SHOW UP TO THE MEETING IN PERSON OR VIA PHONE.?You can find all you need in this?toolkit, including an email/call in template.
?
I know this alot for one day, but we did try to make your participation in these actions as accessible as possible, and every email, call, and voice really does make a difference.?The final ask is to please share this with your networks. Forward it to every listserv you deem appropriate because the truth is- when we fight, we win.?
?
Thank you for all you do and thank you for helping make the world we all know is possible.?
?
Power to the People Always,
Mack, they/them
