Rep. Adriano Espaillat Statement on the Decision Allowing Elevator Operators to Remain at Washington Heights Stations
Espaillat Led Efforts to Support Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 100 and Disabled Workers
NEW YORK, NY – Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement on today's decision to halt the removal of vital elevator operators at Washington Heights subway stations:
"The people must have a say on issues affecting them the most, and I am proud to have led this effort to stand with TWU 100 and disabled TWU employees and ensure the voices of my constituents are heard," said Congressman Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). "Today's decision to halt the elimination of vital elevator workers at uptown stations in my district, which are some of the deepest underground stations in the entire New York subway system, is a tremendous victory. I look forward to the start of public hearings and input from our local community in response to the MTA's plans to reduce or eliminate transit options that will significantly impact vulnerable communities."
