It's been another busy week in TX-23 and D.C. I am proud to serve our district in Congress. Each day, I work to address your concerns and protect our liberties. From helping you navigate federal casework to addressing your concerns, my team and I are always here to help. Please read below for some updates on my recent work representing you in Washington, D.C. and back home in TX-23. Delivering for our Troops Supporting our Servicemembers I have the distinct honor of representing thousands of servicemembers across several military installations in Texas, including Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Fort Bliss in El Paso, and Joint Base San Antonio. As a 20-year Navy veteran, I have made it a priority since my first day in Congress to provide tangible results for the men and women who serve in our armed forces. In the 118th Congress, I have advanced critical wins for these installations that will have a direct impact on our servicemembers' quality of life and mission-preparedness while serving. During triumph and hardship, we lean on our sacred beliefs to guide us. With this chapel's completion, servicemembers will have an appropriate space on base to practice their faith. For our troops to respond at a moment's notice, we must ensure that our military bases are capable of efficiently transporting personnel and equipment. With this funding, Fort Bliss will be able to improve its supply chain operations by rail. Parents who serve our country make great sacrifices, but they should never have to compromise their child's development. With this investment, military families at JBSA-Lackland can have peace of mind that their children's upbringing will be prioritized. Relief for Military Families As part of the FY24 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), my amendment to increase the Family Separation Allowance (FSA) was included to give military families financial relief whenever their loved one is called to report for active duty. Investing in Mental Health for our Veterans Recently, I voted to advance funding for the Veterans Crisis Hotline, operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs. This lifeline provides 24/7, confidential mental health support for servicemembers and veterans. In many cases, the wounds we can’t see are often the deepest for our veterans. With this assistance, our nation's heroes will continue to have an outlet for treatment. Celebrating 233 Years of the U.S. Coast Guard Last week, the United States Coast Guard celebrated its 233rd birthday. I am thankful for the men and women in our Coast Guard who protect our maritime interests and keep our waters secure. "A few armed vessels, judiciously stationed at the entrances of our ports, might at small expense be made useful sentinels of the laws.” - Alexander Hamilton, Founder of the U.S. Coast Guard. My team and I are always available to assist you. Please feel free to contact my office at any time.
