Team — My friend, colleague, and mentor, Congressman John Lewis, celebrates his 80th birthday tomorrow.

An icon of the civil rights movement, Congressman Lewis has dedicated his life to making America a place that is right and just for all people — regardless of race, gender, or creed. And nothing has been more critical to that fight than ensuring every American has the right to vote.

Congressman Lewis put his life on the line for these values, leading hundreds of civil rights marchers across the Edmund Pettus Bridge where they were beaten bloody for peacefully protesting racist laws that prevented Black Americans from participating in our democratic process.

The right to vote is the most sacred part of our democracy. Despite how far we’ve come as a country to protect the right to vote for Black Americans, that right is under attack in ways we have not seen since the civil rights era.

That’s why I’m asking you to join me in honoring Congressman Lewis by pledging to vote this November. He fought, bled, and marched to ensure everyone has equal access to the ballot box, and we couldn’t think of a more fitting way to honor him than by participating in that process. →

Thank you for joining me in honoring my friend,
Yvette
