John, I'm back in Illinois for August recess, which means I'm taking some much needed time to spend with my family. Just last week, we were in Portage Park for an outdoor movie! |
But this isn't just time for me to kick my feet up and relax, John. Before I go back to Washington, I'm ready to reintroduce myself and let the people in our community know that their needs are my top priority.
And I mean that – public service has always been so important to me.
That's why, as a teenager, I became the "mail lady" for my church's shelter. At just 17 years old, I was doing all I could to help people suffering from homelessness apply for life-changing benefits.
That's why, as a representative in the Illinois House, I took it one step further and helped expand Medicaid to seniors, regardless of their immigration status. There, I was also honored to stand up for reproductive freedom and establish an elected school board for Chicago Public Schools.
That's why now, as the first Latina from the Midwest to be elected to Congress, and the only member from a mixed-status household, I'm a strong advocate for 1️⃣ reforming our immigration processes, 2️⃣ protecting our veterans, and 3️⃣ tackling our housing issues.
And while I want to continue delivering on our issues and being a strong voice for our residents, there are some who are scared of bold change and are not used to someone delivering on their campaign promises.
Because of who I am and what I stand for, some self-serving moderates are targeting my seat. That's why starting our next campaign with strong grassroots support is so important. Please, John, will you donate any amount and join our team today? |
Thank you, Congresswoman Delia Ramirez
