Villains and scapegoats distract from the economic and social issues facing our country.

Friend—Like many of you, I’m thrilled to see more and more charges pile up against Donald Trump, especially the latest indictment for his interference in the transfer of power after the 2020 election.

I hope something actually comes of it.

Is it actually going to result in barring Trump from running for President again? Will he face actual consequences through our justice system, or is this just another distraction?

When you create a villain, when you create a scapegoat to blame for the economic and social problems in this country, you’re ultimately distracting from the real issues. It reminds me a lot of the anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation moving through state houses this year, how it creates a hubbub that shrouds the economic floor falling out under so many working families.

In a country where people are struggling to afford healthcare, housing, and education, we should be able to bring justice to wrongdoers and at the same time make life easier and better for working class people.

When I vote for a candidate, I need something more inspiring than “we have to beat the other side,” and I would also expect people in this particular district to expect more of their representative. Not just to run on an anti-Trump platform, corrupt and dangerous as he may be, but to run on a platform that is actually going to materially benefit people and make their lives easier.

My campaign is fundamentally a campaign of economic equity. There is no reason the United States needs to be such a vastly unequal, unjust nation when our founding values are freedom and liberty.

Struggling to afford housing, healthcare, and education is not freedom or liberty.

And don’t worry. When I’m in office, and there’s an opportunity to reduce the harm done by Donald Trump, I will not pass it up.

In solidarity,

Maebe
