Hi friends,
Our ferries are not just for transporting Alaskans and our goods. They provide access to healthcare and educational opportunities and they are enjoyed by thousands of tourists every year. Just last week, I heard from caregivers that they cannot bring mammography equipment to Southeast communities and a school in Angoon has had interrupted delivery of their breakfast and lunch food from the federal child nutrition program.
Ferries move families serving in the armed services and some even have the level of certification to help the Coast Guard in emergencies.
Gov. Dunleavy and his administration in Juneau are underfunding these ferries, which was a leading cause of the recent ferry stoppage. It is a truly upsetting development, and it’s hard to believe that our local, state, and federal leaders are not able to join forces to protect such an important economic resource for our state.
Last week I attended the Save our Ferries protest in Anchorage because I will always show up for what Alaskans need.
But where is our federal delegation? Once again, our one US Representative Don Young is silent. As the longest-serving Alaska representative at any level of government, he should be using his platform to advocate for expanding funding for our marine highway system. As with most things, this should not be an issue where leaders put protecting party over standing up for what is right for Alaskans.
We need engaged leadership here in Alaska and in DC. That’s why I’m running for Congress. Please consider supporting my campaign for an independent voice for Alaska by contributing today → [link removed]
