Ottawa refuses to help grassroots First Nations band members keep their local chief and council accountable.

So, a courageous Indigenous activist is partnering with the CTF to go to court.

Hans McCarthy is an activist fighting for accountability on Frog Lake First Nation and you and thousands of other Canadians can stand with him.

In 2013, Frog Lake’s trust fund, funded by oil revenues, totaled about $100 million, according to documents released through the First Nations Financial Transparency Act.

In 2021, the documents show only $3 million is left.

Hans asked his chief and council for documents showing what happened to the trust fund. Then Hans and the CTF filed access to information requests to get a hold of the documents from Ottawa. Both times Hans got nothing.

Now, Hans and the CTF are taking Ottawa to court to get these important documents.

This court fight is important because it will help Hans get the documents he needs.

Even more importantly, winning this fight would set a precedent that all grassroots band members should have access to important documents like this.

A great law firm has agreed to take the case at a big discount, but court fights are never cheap. We’ve budgeted $45,000 to win this fight. So, we’re counting on 4,500 supporters to chip in $10 each.
