Last week, I opposed the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (MilCon-VA) funding bill, which ended up passing the House on a party-line vote.
This bill masquerades as support for our military and veterans, but it actually fundamentally threatens the commitment we, as a nation, have made to these heroes. It weakens their safety, hurts their quality of life, and dishonors the sacred promise we have made them and their families by cutting our investments in education, housing, job opportunities, and food assistance.
This bill also fails to protect our military communities from toxic substances and makes our bases vulnerable to rising sea levels and storms, threatening our military readiness and ability to protect and defend our nation.
