The potential impact of criminal charges for immigrants is severe and life-changing - it may include detention, deportation, and ineligibility for U.S. citizenship. That’s why we need fair courts for immigrant New Yorkers.
The Fair Courts Act ensures judges provide a clear and accurate notifications before every plea. This will help ensure that immigrants are alerted to get advice they are entitled to from their attorneys.

My name is __________ and I’m a New York resident contacting you to voice my support for the Frair Courts for Immigrant New Yorkers Act (S.5826 / A.3507) recently passed by the legislature. Immigrant New Yorkers are often unaware that a plea in court can have devastating consequences, including detention adn deportation. This bill ensures that immigrants receive accurate and proper notifciation of the potential risks of a plea, alters them of their right to seek immigration advice, and offers a remebdyw hen proper notification isn’t offered by the court.
Governor, this is the second time the legislature has passed the bill. It’s an unmistakable call for he state to ensure the constitutional rights of immigrants in courts. I urge you to sign this bill into law today to protect immigrant New Yorkers.
