** Remember when "Saving the Whales" was in vogue?
------------------------------------------------------------
New York Post ([link removed]) (8/2/23) reports: "The Biden administration appears to be scrambling for research on the conflict between wind turbines and a highly endangered whale species on the East Coast following reports of 'unprecedented' whale deaths. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), a regulatory body from the Department of Interior that leases offshore areas for energy development, posted a grant notice in May targeted at 'addressing key information gaps in acoustic ecology of the North Atlantic Right Whales,' one of the most endangered whale species in the world. The problem is the government has already approved offshore wind projects, and some experts are saying the attention to the whales is too little too late. Fishermen in the region are calling the government 'hypocritical' after the same federal agencies almost 'regulated [them] completely out of
business' in an effort to protect the endangered species without any data showing fishermen bring any harm to the right whale. BOEM’s grant notice states, 'In support of the rapid development of offshore wind (OSW) on the Atlantic OCS, the Environmental Studies Program (ESP) has identified a priority need to address knowledge gaps in the acoustic behavior of critically endangered North Atlantic right whales (NARW).'"

** "Many well-intentioned people might have supported a carbon tax under false pretenses, but once reality sets in they realize they can’t afford it. This is the abusive pattern of a government more focused on its own agenda than on integrity."

It's not just energy policy, Washington is wrong on everything!
** Wall Street Journal ([link removed])
(8/7/23) reports: "Gasoline prices had their biggest one-day increase in a year on July 25, rising to an eight-month high, while oil passed $80 a barrel. More than half a century of experience working in the oil industry tells me that with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries doing all it can to keep prices high, the only way to prevent them from rising higher is to produce more oil and gas here at home. President Biden has pursued the opposite strategy. Instead of increasing production, he wants to mandate that Americans use less—by banning or restricting the use of gas stoves, gas heat, air conditioning and even cars with combustible engines. That is a recipe for lower living standards, higher prices and a waning of America’s geopolitical leadership. Every time government intervenes in unpredictable energy markets, politicians get it wrong. Take the Fuel Use Act of 1978. The young Sen. Joe Biden and Rep. Al Gore were among those who championed the act, which mandated the
use of coal to generate electricity because so-called experts were sure the U.S. was running out of oil and natural gas."
Uh oh, it's hot in the summer. Better raise taxes and outlaw private vehicle ownership. That should cool things down.

It's the end of new buildings in Boston.

(8/3/23) reports: "Boston’s mayor’s office has issued an executive order forbidding the use of fossil fuels during construction and major renovation projects on city-owned buildings. The move is effective for all new projects, although those under procurement, design, or construction are exempt. The executive order notes that municipal emissions constitute 2.3% of Boston’s carbon emissions, and that 70% of emissions are from the city administration’s 16 million sq ft of property. Michelle Wu, Boston’s mayor, said: “Week after week, we see the signs of extreme heat, storms and flooding that remind us of a closing window to take climate action. 'The benefits of embracing fossil-fuel-free infrastructure in our city hold no boundary across industries and communities, and Boston will continue using every possible tool to build the green, clean, healthy and prosperous future our city deserves.' Oliver Sellers-Garcia, Boston’s Green New Deal director, said: 'We are taking an all-of-government
approach, finding ways for our cabinets and departments to play a role in climate action. In addition to new buildings, this order applies to major renovations because, often, the most sustainable way to make a green building is not to start from scratch.'"
