Ohio is holding a critical special election tomorrow, and VoteRiders has been working around the clock to reach Ohio voters to let them know about the state’s new voter ID law and how it impacts them.

Just last week, we hosted a textbank attended by 310 volunteers who texted 1,068,000 Ohio voters – mostly young voters of color, the very voters who are hardest-hit by ID laws. And that’s on top of the community outreach, letter writing, and digital ads we’re running to reach millions more.

All of this outreach costs money. The textbank and related ID assistance cost VoteRiders more than $21,000. We really need your help to make the final push before tomorrow’s election. Will you chip in $35 or more right now to power our work?

Tomorrow’s vote on Issue 1 will determine whether Ohio raises the threshold for voters to pass amendments to the state constitution — from a simple majority to 60%. Passing the referendum would make it significantly more difficult to amend the state’s constitution, and will make it much harder for Ohioans to pass an amendment guaranteeing abortion rights in November.

We believe every voter has the right to make their voice heard tomorrow. Unfortunately, Ohio enacted one of the strictest voter ID laws in the country earlier this year, and not everyone is aware of this major change to the voting rules.

There’s the potential for a lot of confusion tomorrow — many eligible voters may be turned away because they simply didn’t know about the new rules.
