Team — Let's be clear: Voter suppression of any kind is a threat to our democracy.
But unfortunately, lawmakers continue to introduce brazen and oppressive voting legislation focused on restricting and disproportionately sabotaging voters of color, seniors, and young people.
The Brennan Center for Justice found, as of June 2023, legislators in at least 11 states have enacted 13 restrictive bills that would undermine the electoral process.
Derek believes that Congress should protect the rights of every American citizen to participate in our democracy. And it should act before more voter suppression laws are implemented. That's why he is a proud co-sponsor of the Freedom to Vote Act – a bill that will strengthen the voice of the American people in their democracy by making it easier to vote, ending the dominance of big money in the political process, and ending partisan gerrymandering.
