John, our democracy is in crisis. It faces its greatest test since Jim Crow.
Yesterday's anniversary of the Voting Rights Act's passage serves as a clear reminder of how far we've come and the work we still have left to rid our democracy of the barriers many Americans still face at the polls.
Since 2013, when the Supreme Court gutted key provisions of the Voting Rights Act in Shelby County vs. Holder, Republican lawmakers have been working nonstop to make it harder for Americans—especially Black and brown Americans—to vote.
When I was sworn into Congress, I got to work immediately to co-author legislation aimed at protecting our fundamental right to vote—legislation passed by the House when we had a Democratic majority.
Congressman Mike Lawler and his Republican colleagues oppose that legislation, called the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
When I’m back in Congress, I’ll never stop fighting to pass comprehensive voting rights protections and save our democracy. Join me by chipping in $5 or any amount you can to flip NY-17, reclaim the Democratic majority, and finally get voting rights on the President’s desk and into law.

Republicans are using every trick in the Jim Crow playbook to stop people from voting, from ID requirements to gerrymandering to shutting down voting centers in rural communities.
Without any new legislation to stop them, it will only get worse.
Today’s Republican Party has completely abandoned democracy—instead choosing to side with the serially indicted former President, Donald Trump, who incited an insurrection and attempted to toss out the votes of Black and brown voters in places like Georgia, Arizona, and Pennsylvania.
This is a turning point for our democracy, but we’ve been here before. It’s time to dig deep and elect people who are willing to lead us through the wilderness.
We can restore the Voting Rights Act, ban partisan gerrymandering, make Election Day a national holiday, create automatic voter registration, and more—but only if we flip NY-17 and retake our Democratic House majority. Chip in $5, and let’s get it done together.
Thanks,
Mondaire
