60 years ago, the first March on Washington was held to call for the advancement of civil rights in the name of justice and equality. Now, 60 years later, our democracy and civil rights are still under attack.
In one month, the National Action Network and Drum Major Institute are hosting the 60th March on Washington on the National Mall to serve as a continuation of Dr. Martin Luther King’s message. As hard-fought civil rights are being stripped away each day in this country there is no more important time than now to fight back.

Self-Care
Self-care is an intentional practice that roots us in the present despite the oppression we may face. Regular self-care is essential for sustainable and effective activism.
Here are our self-care tips for August:
1. Take a social media break. Whether you're trying to decrease your social media use in general or are feeling overwhelmed by what feels like a constant stream of bad news, taking a break from scrolling can help you decompress and feel less rushed. I've been swapping my scrolling time for longer walks and more books – most recently Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle! – Kieran, Chief Research Analyst
2. Read! I love reading. I find it calming and one of the few media mediums where my brain shuts down all outside thoughts and I can immerse myself in the story. I have heard from a lot of friends that they can't seem to get into reading and I think solution for many is just to put down or DNF (did not finish) any book you don't like. By prioritizing your own time and not forcing yourself through books you don't like it makes space for the books you do like! Would you make yourself watch an entire TV show you didn't like? Heck no! So, do the same with books. Get a book in your favorite genre, sit back, relax, and enjoy! – Jessica, Digital Outreach and Opposition Research Director
3. Experience something through new eyes! It can be easy to get lost in our daily habits and lose sight of what's around us. To remedy this, I like to go for walks and admire the pretty trees and houses I see, since I don't often stop to appreciate things like that. Taking some time to slow down and acknowledge the beauty in the world and in your life can bring joy to your daily routine! –Hunter, Summer Fellow
See you next month!
