Radical Democrat Mayor of Chicago Chastises Media for Being Mean to Criminals

Fox News: Left-wing Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson once again blasted efforts to condemn young criminals when he rejected a reporter’s use of the word “mob” to describe dozens of looters on Wednesday. Johnson gave a public press conference following the arrest of 40 people between the ages of 12-20 for reckless conduct misdemeanors in Chicago’s South Loop on Sunday night. It was estimated that approximately 300–400 people gathered and began to take part in “disorderly” behavior and attempted to loot a convenience store. The Chicago mayor provided updates regarding the situation but took issue after a reporter described the massive group as a “mob” (Fox News). Portland Lost Over 14 Thousand Residents Resulting in $1 Billion in Lost Revenue Between 2020-2021

Not surprising. Crime has exploded in the city with their homicide record being broken two consecutive years in 21 and 22. Washington Examiner: Portland, Oregon, lost $1 billion between 2020 and 2021 as residents fled rampant homelessness and crime, taking their tax dollars with them. According to an analysis of Internal Revenue Service data by Oregon Live, Multnomah County, where Portland is located, hemorrhaged 14,257 persons filing taxes, resulting in a record loss of $1 billion in revenue. Those who moved were also relatively wealthy, with the former residents holding incomes 14% higher than persons who had moved out of the area the year before. Over the course of the year, the average income of county residents who stayed declined slightly. That is a large shift for the Portland area historically, which had experienced 15 consecutive years of growth only to become one of America’s “fastest-shrinking” cities (Washington Examiner).

White House Subtly Changes Cost Savings for Gas Stove Bans

Fox News: The Biden administration quietly revised its data analysis of gas stove regulations it proposed earlier this year, showing they would produce fewer consumer savings than previously projected. The Department of Energy (DOE) filed a notification of data availability as part of its ongoing gas stove rulemaking this week, showing that Americans will save 30% less than it said they would under the regulations when they were first proposed in February. The agency’s new analysis showed consumers are now expected to save just 9 cents per month under the gas stove regulations (Fox News). Businessman, energy expert Dan K. Eberhart: Now even the Biden administration themselves are admitting that their gas stove ban will cause more harm than good. Yet they will still knowingly push bad policy because the far-left agenda is more important to them than the facts (Twitter).

Illinois Judge Halts Law Restricting Free Speech of Crisis Pregnancy Centers

Catholic News Agency: A federal judge ordered Illinois to stop enforcing a law that restricts the speech of pro-life pregnancy centers while litigation over the constitutionality of the restrictions continues. Judge Iain D. Johnston provided the pro-life pregnancy centers with temporary relief on Aug. 3 so they can freely advertise their services and speak to their clients freely. The order, which came one week after the law went into effect, does not settle the question of the constitutionality of the restrictions but will ensure their speech isn’t restricted as they await a final ruling. Several pro-life pregnancy centers sued Attorney General Kwame Raoul over the law, which could result in fines of $50,000 for speech that the state determines is deceptive or misrepresents or omits information related to abortion (Catholic News Agency). Life News: Pregnancy resource centers are community-based charities that provide information that women likely will not learn at an abortion facility, including abortion risks, fetal development and the support services available to pregnant and parenting mothers. Their clients overwhelmingly report positive experiences. During the debate in the state legislature, Republican lawmakers pointed out that the attorney general’s office has not received a single complaint about a pro-life pregnancy resource center for as far back as they checked, at least 10 years. Across the country, pregnancy centers have become a target of attacks, from arson and vandalism, to legislation, to media hit pieces and pro-abortion campaigns (Life News).

British Rowing Protects Women’s Competition by Creating Three New Categories

Christian Poat: British Rowing has adopted a policy limiting participation in a newly created women’s team to biological females. It is one of several sporting organizations to do so amid concerns about the fairness of trans-identified males competing in women’s sports. The governing board announced Thursday that it was implementing a new policy on Competition Eligibility and Procedures, which is slated to take effect on Sept. 11. The new policy outlines requirements for competing in three newly established categories: “Open,” “Women’s” and “Mixed.” All athletes, regardless of biological sex or self-declared gender identity, can compete in the Open category. However, for the Women’s category, only people “assigned female at birth will be eligible to compete in competitions under British Rowing’s jurisdiction and/or be selected to represent Great Britain, or England, in international events.” For the Mixed category, competition organizers can offer competitions “at any level of competition, providing 50% of crew are eligible from the women’s category” (Christian Post). Oli London: British Rowing has BANNED biological men swimming in women’s rowing. British Rowing, the sports governing body, has announced a new policy meaning only biological women can compete against other women. Instead, trans towers will now be able to compete in an Open Category as well as a Mixed Category to ensure fairness in competitive races (Twitter).

Anheuser-Busch Heir Criticizes Marketing Campaign to Partner with Mulvaney

Fox News: Anheuser-Busch heir Billy Busch blasted Bud Light over the controversy stemming from its brief partnership with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney. Bud Light faced intense criticism after announcing in the spring that it was partnering with Mulvaney in a campaign aimed at inclusiveness that included Mulvaney’s face on Bud Light cans. Anheuser-Busch, Bud Light’s parent company, lost billions in market value after the partnership. In an interview with TMZ, Busch told host Harvey Levin that he believes his ancestors would be disappointed in the Mulvaney ad campaign (Fox News). National Review: On Thursday, Anheuser-Busch reported a drop in sales and profit in their most recent quarter of operations as the fallout from its partnership with Mulvaney continues to take a toll. The company’s revenue stateside continued to decline, falling by more than 10 percent this quarter compared to the same period last year, according to latest earnings report. The company said the drop was “primarily due to the volume decline of Bud Light” following the conservative-led boycott of the brand (National Review).

Former Democrat Mayor Pleads Guilty to 140 Counts of Child Pornography

He will spend 30 years in jail. CNN: The former mayor of a Maryland college town pleaded guilty Wednesday to 140 charges stemming from child pornography possession and distribution, prosecutors said. Patrick Wojahn had served as the mayor of College Park for about eight years before his resignation and arrest in March. Wojahn pleaded guilty to 60 counts of distribution of child pornography, 40 counts of possession of child pornography, and 40 counts of possession of child pornography with the intention to distribute (CNN). Washington Post: Wojahn, who resigned just before his arrest, will be eligible for parole after serving 25 percent of the sentence (Washington Post).

Russia, China Send Naval Patrol to Patrol Arctic Region Near Coast of Alaska

Wall Street Journal: A combined Russian and Chinese naval force patrolled near the coast of Alaska last week in what U.S. experts said appeared to be the largest such flotilla to approach American shores. Eleven Russian and Chinese ships steamed close to the Aleutian Islands, according to U.S. officials. The ships, which never entered U.S. territorial waters and have since left, were shadowed by four U.S. destroyers and P-8 Poseidon aircraft (Wall Street Journal). Daily Wire: There is currently a struggle for dominance and power in the Arctic region, which is becoming contested territory, and the Russian-Chinese naval patrols appear to be part of that struggle, the Journal reports. Their work together in the region is a sign of increasing cooperation between Moscow and Beijing. According to the Arctic Council, which is an intergovernmental forum focused on the Arctic, the Aleut region, where the Aleutian Islands are located, is referred to as the “doorway to the Arctic.” Eight countries that have territory in the Arctic make up the Arctic Council and are “stewards of the region,” according to the Council website (Daily Wire).

NASCAR Suspends Driver for Liking George Floyd Meme

New York Post: NASCAR driver Noah Gragson has been suspended by Legacy Motor Club and NASCAR after he appeared to like a meme that made light of George Floyd’s death on social media. Gragson will subsequently not race in Sunday’s Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway. It’s not clear how long the suspension will last (New York Post). US Women’s National Team Falls to Sweden, Eliminated from World Cup

Post Millennial: The US women’s soccer team was heavily favored to win the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, but under team captain Megan Rapinoe, the ladies’ dreams of victory have been dashed. The US was a two-time defending champion. England is now the favorite to win the cup. The US lost in the last-16 round in a 5-4 shootout against Sweden, who now moves on in the tournament (Post Millennial). Citizen Free Press: The US women have been knocked out of the World Cup! Megan Rapinoe was a major reason they lost. She absolutely shanked her penalty kick. The keeper didn’t have to make a save. Pay them more (Twitter). Greg Price: Megan Rapinoe’s missed penalty was almost as embarrassing as the time her team lost 5-2 to a team of 15-year-old boys (Twitter). Jon Root: The USWNT wanted equality so bad, they lost in the same round as the USMNT (Twitter).
