Dear Friends,
This week marked the first official week of the annual August district work period. I have been hard at work meeting constituents across our district so I can bring your priorities with me when I go back to Washington.
National Night Out
It was my pleasure to join the Richton Park and Hazel Crest police departments for their National Night Out events. Community safety is my top priority and I’m grateful to have so many committed partners to support our neighborhoods.
Supporting Rural Communities
I met with Illinois farmers, health professionals, and small business owners across the Second Congressional District this week. My district tour included Cow Creek Farm and Silver Tree Beer and Spirits in Paxton, Gibson Area Hospital & Health Systems in Gibson City, and the Slagel Family Farm in Fairbury. I concluded my day with a “barn hall” meeting in Kankakee at the O’Connor Family Farm to hear from a wide range of farmers and food assistance experts about their priorities for upcoming legislation. These visits are an invaluable opportunity to learn more about pressing agriculture and nutrition needs before Congress considers a Farm Bill later this year.
Upcoming Deadlines To Receive Veterans Benefits
Eligible Veterans who file their PACT Act claim, or quickly submit the intent to file, by August 9, 2023, may receive benefits backdated to August 10, 2022. For additional information, visit: https://www.va.gov/resources/the-pact-act-and-your-va-benefits/.
Since my colleagues and I passed the PACT Act, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has delivered more than $1.4 billion dollars in PACT Act health benefits to Veterans. Additionally, more than 665,000 Veterans have applied for PACT Act-related benefits, more than 3.9 million Veterans have received new toxic exposure screenings, and more than 287,000 Veterans have enrolled in VA health care.
