Brazil's president is once again attempting to erase the indigenous way of life through his policies and actions.
Bolsonaro recently introduced a bill to open up indigenous territories for mining. At the same time, he is also attempting to appoint an ex-missionary to lead a department responsible for the protection of indigenous peoples.
Decisions like this are not surprising when phrases like "the Amazon is for the Brazilians" and "too much land for a handful of 'indians' [sic]" are common in his speeches. Being openly against indigenous rights is one of the president's main talking points, a position that he sees as both "nationalistic" and "logical."
