Did you hear about the worst law in the world for LGBTQ people? On May 29, Uganda’s president signed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, the most draconian, anti-LGBTQ bill, into law. The law even imposes the death penalty for some forms of consensual same-sex relations.
The law has incited a wave of violence against LGBTQ Ugandans. For example, we already know of people beaten by neighbors and evicted by their landlords. LGBTQ Ugandans are scared.
Hear from one of the activists on the ground:
This Ugandan activist’s identity is hidden for their protection, yet their words are chilling: I’m scared, but just because you’re afraid doesn’t mean you shouldn’t fight.
This issue is not isolated. Policymakers in Ghana, Kenya, and beyond are now taking steps to pass similar laws.
Outright and our partners will not stand idle. Today, we are asking you to join our fight.
Your generous contribution enables us to work with partners to challenge these laws. It will also provide safety and support to LGBTQ groups and individuals. We cannot turn away from our LGBTQ communities in their most dire time of need. Will you help?
Together, we can make a difference and make LGBTQ lives better.
Thank you for your continued commitment.
With gratitude,
