John,
I wanted to give you an important update on our campaign to stop Cop City — a $90 million urban warfare training facility that would tear down part of the Weelaunee Forest to build a mock city where police forces can test weapons and explosives, helicopter landings, and further militarize law enforcement against communities.
My name is Scarlett, and I am an organizer with Working Families Power and the Cop City Vote Coalition. I’ve called Atlanta home for nearly a decade and live less than three miles from the proposed location of Cop City.
For nearly two months, our team of over 500 volunteers have worked at a breakneck speed to collect signatures. We’ve canvassed, verified voter information, and hosted parties and public safety forums.
Through our work, we’ve collected over 40,000 signatures to put Cop City on the ballot as a referendum. Which means we only have 30,000 left to go to ensure we can get on the ballot and let Atlanta voters decide.
We also won a major legal victory last month after a federal judge overturned a restriction on who can collect signatures and extended the deadline to qualify for the ballot.
While this decision strengthens our resolve, there is still work to be done, and we need you. Can you sign up to phone bank potential volunteers in Atlanta who can help us collect signatures and qualify for the ballot?

Cop City threatens everything I love about my city — the canopies of green, the history, and the diversity of people. Cutting down 90 acres of forest and polluting our watershed will further exacerbate the urban heat island effect — where unshaded pavement and buildings absorb and radiate heat into the surrounding area.
Increased police spending will lead to a greater threat of police violence, particularly toward Black and other communities of color. The decision to build Cop City is huge, and the costs, both economic and social, will impact families for generations to come.
Atlanta voters deserve to have a say, and in order to create that opportunity, we must collect the necessary amount of signatures to put Cop City on the ballot.
Sign up to phone bank from anywhere to help us get more volunteers on the street to collect ballot signatures.
Or pitch in to support our work to Stop Cop City and let Atlanta decide.
In solidarity,
Scarlett Mayoralgo
