MIKIE SHERRILL - U.S. CONGRESS [[link removed]]
Hi team,
58 years ago today, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 into federal law — monumental legislation that ended Jim Crow voter suppression rules and guaranteed every American the right to vote, regardless of race.
We must remember that this legislation was only possible because of civil rights leaders like the late John Lewis, who was beaten bloody by Alabama stormtroopers on the Edmund Pettus Bridge while marching to demand voting rights — a dark day that ultimately spurred Congress to take action.
Today, our sacred right to vote is more threatened than at any time since the Civil Rights movement.
Right-wing state lawmakers across the country, inspired by Donald Trump’s Big Lie, have introduced hundreds of voter suppression bills. And over a dozen states have already passed legislation making it harder for Americans to vote and participate in our democratic process.
All the while, Congressional Republicans have blocked every one of our attempts to pass new voting rights legislation.
Our democracy is stronger when everyone has a seat at the table, and John Lewis taught us that to create change, we must speak up together and demand action.
Team, Mikie is fighting hard to honor John Lewis’ legacy and ensure that every American has equal access to the ballot box, but she can’t do it alone.
To commemorate the 58th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, please add your name to Mikie’s petition calling on Congress to pass comprehensive voting rights legislation now. Voting rights lie at the very heart of our democracy — and we must defend them with everything we have. [[link removed]]

Mikie won’t stop fighting to protect the right to vote. Thank you for adding your name and standing up for our democracy today.
