Andrew is partnering with the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration to honor our Vietnam veterans and present them with commemorative pins and certificates of recognition. The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration was created as a national 50th anniversary commemoration Presidential Proclamation in 2012 and concludes on Veterans Day 2025 with its primary objective being to thank and honor our Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice on behalf of our nation. ANDREW IN THE NEWS GOP lawmakers caution DHS could defund cooperative programs with Israel " In a letter sent to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas earlier this week, a group of House Republicans alleges that the Department of Homeland Security may not provide funding this year for cooperative cyber and homeland security grant programs with Israel. The letter was signed by Reps. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Nancy Mace (R-SC), Nicholas Langworthy (R-NY), Nick LaLota (R-NY), Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY) and Mike Lawler (R-NY)...The letter from the GOP lawmakers highlights the growing threat from Iranian cyber attacks to the U.S. and Israel. 'These two programs incentivize academic and private sector innovation from two of the world’s leaders in cybersecurity to jointly combat the evolving threats we face from malign actors,' the letter reads. 'Both programs should be funded at the levels authorized by Congress in order to ensure both countries are armed with the tools necessary to protect our critical infrastructure.' WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Meets With Bellport Mayor This week, Andrew joined Mayor Maureen Veitch and her team to discuss issues affecting waterfront resiliency, share project ideas, and hear about the wonderful things happening in the heart of Bellport Village. Andrew is always grateful to spend time with our local leaders and thanks Mayor Veitch for the tour around town and for all she does for our community. National Night Out In Holtsville This week, Holtsville hosted a National Night Out, an event designed to build strong community partnerships and promote safe neighborhoods. Andrew's team attended to pass out fliers detailing constituent services offered by his office and information on upcoming community events. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Urges Administration To Preserve Joint Programs With Israel Critical To U.S. National Security This week, Andrew led a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to express serious concerns with reports that the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) is considering defunding programs vital to our national security at home and abroad - the U.S.-Israel Cybersecurity Cooperation grant program and the U.S.-Israel Binational Industrial Research and Development Homeland Security (BIRD HLS) program.
