Hello Comrades! Take a look at what Sacramento DSA has in store this month and see how you can get involved.

Announcements

Read through the announcements and learn about any updates or requests to the General Membership.

Updated Website!

We finally have an updated website, with the help of the National Tech Committee from national DSA! It now has a working event calendar page ;) The URL is the same but you can access it below.

Wanted: CA-DSA Delegates

Over the past few years, DSA has made major strides organizing across chapters at the state-wide level. Last year, Sacramento DSA joined a supermajority of other California DSA chapters to scale up that work by voting to form a new statewide organization.

Sacramento DSA will elect three delegates and at least one alternate, this number is based on our general membership.

Sacramento DSA Delegates will serve 1-year terms. The three winning candidates will become delegates, and runners-up(s) may serve as alternate delegate(s). If there are too few nominees, then it is the responsibility of the board to appoint alternates.

EXTENDED DEADLINE: Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:59pm.

Local Convention Planning Group

Do you want to get more involved with the Chapter and don't know how?

Are you organized and detailed-oriented? Do you like creating programs and schedules?

Be part of the Local Convention planning group!

Local Conventions are the "highest deliberative body of the Local to amend its structure and decide the political priorities of the Local between Local Conventions".

A lot of planning and work goes into planning a Local Convention and it takes a village to make this happen.

If you are interested, please get in contact with a Steering Committee member or email [email protected] for more information!

Interested writing a blog post?

Do you feel passionate about a certain leftist topic? How about current events? Are you a good writer? If you answered yes, we would love to host your writing on our Sacramento DSA blog located on our website!

Our last entry is a few years ago, so we are hungry for new leftist content to display.

If interested, please email Chapter Secretary, Jessie, at [email protected].

Beyond Walls Film Screening

Friday, August 25, 2023

Southside Park

2115 6th Street, Sacramento, CA 95818

Community, we invite you to join us for a community film screening and conversation about Beyond Walls, a collection of short documentaries that examine prison abolition from a wide range of perspectives with the hope of inspiring people to imagine and take action toward a world invested in community and not punitive practices.

Beyond Walls is an organizing initiative that uses documentary films to define and amplify what prison industrial complex (PIC) abolition means, and inspires people to imagine and take action toward a world without policing. Beyond a goal of simply changing hearts and minds, these five short films empower communities with concrete tools and actions they can take to help create a world without police and prisons."

The event is co-hosted by Decarcerate Sacramento, a local grassroots organization working to prevent jail expansions, decrease jail populations, and shift county funds away from policing and incarceration towards community-based systems of care that promote community safety and health.

Please join us for appetizers, dinner, social mixer, film screening, and a brief discussion.

NOTE: This event will be outdoors in a park, and we ask that you please bring your own chair, blanket, or whatever seating you will be most comfortable in!

Please reach out to us at [email protected] with any accessibility needs in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate.

For those who want to continue building towards a world without prisons and police, there will be resources available on how to get involved and take action in the community, as well as organizations who can answer questions.
