The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges & Schools (ACICS) spent years accrediting fraudulent, for-profit schools and diploma mills that defrauded students and cost taxpayers a fortune -- so the Obama administration decided to shut it down.

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos reversed that decision, and now a joint investigation by the Argus Leader and USA Today revealed the agency accredited another fake school that has "no students, no faculty, and no classrooms."

This is just the latest example on a long list of Secretary DeVos failing students, taxpayers, teachers, and our entire education system -- and it's time for her to go.

Secretary DeVos has repeatedly put profits and private interests ahead of students, while attacking our schools and teachers.

When college students were defrauded by for-profit schools, her department insisted that the students should pay the price with their student loan debt. She's also trying to loosen accreditation rules, making it even more likely that more students will be defrauded while for-profit schools and the student loan industry prosper.

Secretary DeVos has derided our community public institutions as "government schools" and called selfless public school teachers "bullies."

Andy is a product of public schools and has worked to hold Secretary DeVos accountable, and worked to support -- not weaken -- our strong public schools. That's why he recently won the endorsement of the American Federation of Teachers. But Andy can't win this fight alone.
