In the News: Trump indicted on charges stemming from Jan 6 investigation

Fox News:

 

Special Counsel Jack Smith has been investigating whether Trump or other officials and entities interfered with the peaceful transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election.

 

The investigation included possible interference in Congress' certification of the Electoral College vote on Jan. 6, 2021.

 

Trump has maintained the investigation is a partisan political "witch hunt."

In the News: Fitch cuts US credit rating to AA+; Treasury calls it 'arbitrary'

Rating agency Fitch on Tuesday downgraded the U.S. government's top credit rating, a move that drew an angry response from the White House and surprised investors, coming despite the resolution of the debt ceiling crisis two months ago.

 

Traders' immediate response was to embark on a safe-haven push out of stocks and into government bonds and the dollar.

In the News: Employment growth slowing with 187,000 jobs added in July

Washington Examiner: 

 

The economy added 187,000 jobs in July, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday, reflecting a slowdown in the labor market as the Federal Reserve tightens its monetary policy to try to bring down inflation.

 

The number of payroll jobs added over the previous two months, adjusted for seasonal variation, was also revised down by 49,000, suggesting that the pace of job growth has fallen off.
