AVs will take resources away from transit. There are two opportunities for you to speak up against AVs next week, join us in raising your voice!

AVs will take resources away from transit and get in the way of the city’s goal to provide a fast, affordable, and accessible transit network for all residents and visitors. We’ve seen this already with the expansion of services like Lyft and Uber. As Muni continues to recover from the effects of the pandemic, we need more people riding Muni, not less. The expansion of AVs will make our city more car-dependent and unfriendly to transit riders, pedestrians, and people on bikes.

That's why we're asking people to speak up about AVs in our city. There are two times to do so: a rally, and public comment.

Need more information about submitting a comment, or want talking points? SFTR has all that information for you right here.

Join the rally on Monday, at 11:30am!

Join the SFTWA (SF Taxi Workers Alliance) at their upcoming rally to protest autonomous vehicles and their interference with public safety operations. Rallies will be held prior to the upcoming California Public Utilities Commission’s (CPUC) meetings on:

Monday, August 7th  at 11:30 am

Address: 505 McAllister St, San Francisco, CA 94102

We also invite you to attend the meetings on Monday, August 7th at 1 pm and Thursday, August 10th at 11 am for public comment. Comments can also be made prior to the meeting through the CPUC website (PROCEEDING R1212011).

Submit a public comment!

Submit a public comment to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), and let them know how you feel about autonomous vehicles, such as Cruise and Waymo.

1. Post your comment on the Public Comment page of the CPUC website (PROCEEDING R1212011). You can read other public comments on this page and other people will be able to read yours. However, there is an option to make your comment private.

Let’s finish the job on a faster, safer Geary!

Improvements east of Stanyan gave us a Geary that is faster, with 18% faster travel for the 38/38R, and safer, with an 81% drop in excessive speeding. The Geary Boulevard Improvement Project extends the work of the Geary Rapid Project, which was completed in 2021. It adds four major components to Geary, from Stanyan to 34th ave, which you can learn more about here.

The SFMTA Board will vote on the Geary Boulevard Improvement Project on August 15th. Meeting starts at 1pm. If you’d like to give a public comment in support, please fill out the form below so we can send you example talking points, and a reminder the day before. For those commenting by phone, we’ll also send a text/SMS when it’s time to call in!

If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected].

Please note that the SFMTA Board is currently limiting phone public comments to 10 minutes total per agenda item. Giving your comment in person at city hall guarantees that you’ll be heard. If you’re phoning in, the earlier you call in once the item is called, the higher the chance your comment will be heard.

Finally, if you haven't already done so, please send a letter to city leaders, including the SFMTA Board, right now! You can send a letter here.
