John, I wouldn't be the person I am today without the books that shaped me. 

As a kid, I would spend my weekends at my local bookstore, where I'd read books cover to cover since I didn't have the money to buy them. I learned about new perspectives, far-off places, and ideas that made me curious about the world – and eager to help change it. 

All kids deserve the same chance to learn and grow like I had. But right now, Republicans are leading the charge in book censorship – and just last year, over 2,500 books were targeted in U.S. schools and libraries.

President Obama said it best: "It's no coincidence that these 'banned books' are often written by or feature people of color, indigenous people, or members of the LGBTQ+ community." 

But Ted Cruz has made it a cornerstone of his campaign to ban books that don't align with his hateful, extremist rhetoric – and I'm running to stop him. So, please, will you give just $5 right now to power this campaign and help me retire Ted Cruz for good? →

John, Ted Cruz and Gov. Abbott have tried to appeal to their most extreme supporters by claiming the books in our schools aren't safe for kids. Of course that's not true, but Ted Cruz can't see past his own bigotry. 

We have a real chance to defeat Ted Cruz and put an end to this hateful crusade. But already, this race is shaping up to be one of the most expensive in the country. To win, we'll need a huge outpouring of grassroots support from people like you. 

So, I'm personally asking: will you donate $5 or more to help me defeat Ted Cruz? This is our chance to show him that extremist hate doesn't belong in our schools.  →
