Friend,
This week, Donald Trump was indicted for the third time — this time on charges of conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election.
This is a somber occasion.
Trump's indictment serves as a stark reminder that no individual, regardless of their position, should be above the law. It underscores the importance of preserving the integrity of our electoral process and upholding the trust that the American people place in our democratic institutions.
Here in Arizona, our Republican leaders took part in perpetuating the Big Lie.
First, eleven "fake electors" attempted to cast our state's electoral votes in favor of Trump. Then, extremists in the Arizona State Senate wasted millions of taxpayer dollars on an audit of Maricopa County votes.
The perpetrators of the audit — all of whom were Republicans in Leadership roles — served with me in the Senate. They hired Cyber Ninjas as the security contractor, a group that was clearly underqualified and inexcusably biased. As the audit dragged on, they proved that they only cared about political fanaticism, not about election security.
I saw firsthand what was going on. It was unacceptable, and I fought hard against it the whole time.
When we see forces coming together to attack and subvert our democracy, we must take action. It's why I stood up against fraudulent electors and the Maricopa County audit, and why I'm glad to see the Justice Department taking action now.
Our democracy is built on the foundation of fairness, transparency, and the rule of law, and the events that have unfolded since the 2020 election have tested these principles greatly.
In Congress, I will continue to fight for free and fair elections — to ensure that every vote matters and every voice is heard.
This is a challenging time for our nation, but together, we can move forward and build a stronger, more just future.
Best,
Kirsten
