Dear Friend,
Our country made a pact with servicemembers that they would be cared for long after they return home from serving our country in hazardous areas abroad. One year ago, I helped pass the PACT Act into law so that veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange and other toxic substances while serving our country can get the health care and benefits they’ve earned.
Veterans should file a PACT Act claim or submit an “Intent to File” by August 9, 2023, to receive potential benefits backdated to August 10, 2022.
Learn more, find out if you or a loved one is eligible, request a toxic exposure screening or submit a claim or Intent to File.
The PACT Act expanded benefits and health care to nearly 3.5 million veterans. It includes post-9/11 veterans with a range of presumptive conditions including many cancers that may have developed years after serving in the military.
There are around 22,000 veterans in our district, but according to my latest update from VA, less than one percent of local veterans had claimed their new benefits. Please help me spread the word to encourage local veterans to contact VA by August 9 to receive full benefits if eligible. There’s no deadline to apply for PACT Act benefits.

Throughout my time in Congress, I’ve been a champion of veterans’ issues, from serving on the Veterans Affairs Committee, to helping secure the Garland VA Medical Center to passing a law that created the Spinal Cord Injury Center at the North Texas VA.
If you need assistance dealing with VA, please don’t hesitate to call my office (972) 972-7949.
It’s an honor to serve those who served.
Sincerely,
Colin Allred Member of Congress
