'Medicare for All' a broken promise
Dear John,
As I continue to work on legislative solutions that promote high quality, affordable, and accessible health care, some Democrat Presidential candidates continue to cling to an unrealistic Medicare for All scheme that would cost $33 trillion and force 150 million Americans off their employer-provided insurance plans. In Tuesday’s presidential debate, even Democrats agree with me that a Medicare for All scheme plan would drive us off a cliff (-> [link removed] ). Sen. Klobuchar called it “unfeasible.” Former Maryland Congressman John Delaney said forcing Americans off their private health insurance would be like telling them “their health care is illegal.” Montana Gov. Bullock called it “wish-list” economics. Former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke said it would “take away people’s choice.” Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan said it would be a slap in the face for union members who negotiated their private insurance and they “will lose their health care because Washington is going to come in and has a better plan.” It’s time for those clinging to the Medicare for All scheme to join us in real conversations about meaningful health care solutions.
Pro-growth economy good for America
Under the current pro-growth agenda, the American economy is running on all cylinders (-> [link removed] ). While we can always do better, the good news is jobs are up, unemployment is down, small businesses are surging, and optimism is at an all-time high. Consider, in the past 18 months, this pro-growth economy has:
Reduced unemployment (3.2%) to 49-year low;
Increased median household income to all-time high;
Lifted nearly 4 million Americans off food stamps;
Promoted American energy by increasing our coal exports by 60% and pushing our oil production to an all-time high;
Imposed tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum to protect our national security; and
Projected net exports are on track to increase by $59 billion this year.
Despite the economic surge, we can do better and we have more work to do. I will always fight to make this economy better and ensure that everyone has a shot at their version of the American dream.
Metro elitists fear monger and obstruct mining projects
Recently, metro Democrats spread laughable falsehoods about the Polymet clean mining project and called on Gov. Walz to suspend all of the state permits for the copper-nickel mine claiming they need proof, “the permits were not rigged (-> [link removed] ).” While it’s not surprising, this is the latest in another desperate attempt by metro elitists to fear monger and spread unsubstantiated claims about a Polymet clean mining project that has underwent nearly 15 years of perhaps the most thorough oversight and scrutiny in our state’s history. The fact of the matter is with 21st century technology, we don’t have to make a choice. We can have safe, clean mining and job creation that would provide an economic boom to our region. I encourage the governor to live up to his “One Minnesota” campaign slogan and reject the desperate smear attempts of metro extreme environmentalists. Let's unleash the economic engine!
Gov. Inslee on wrong side of Line 3 replacement project
Another issue popping up on the campaign trail of Democrat presidential hopefuls is the Enbridge Line 3 replacement project. Disappointingly, West Coast Gov. Jay Inslee is misinformed on facts (-> [link removed] ). Failing to replace a 60-year-old pipeline would lead to environmental consequences in northern Minnesota. The governor would be better served to listen to Minnesota’s hardworking families and union members, who are still holding out hope for the thousands of jobs that will result from this project in addition to the millions of dollars in property taxes for rural schools. Let’s create jobs, generate an economic boom in our region, AND protect the environment.
