My name is Jenna Royal and I’m the new Voter Protection Director here at Texas Democrats. I’m a mom, native Texan, lawyer, activist and above all -- a fighter for justice. Growing up in East Texas, I learned the value of hard work at an early age. This work ethic eventually carried me through college, law school, and now ensuring that every eligible Texas voter can cast their ballot in every election. Even though I’ve only been in the Voter Protection role for a few weeks, I’m excited to share with you the big plans my team and I are looking forward to implementing:

• Leading a state-of-the-art Vote by Mail program that helps get out the vote for seniors and people with disabilities
• Recruit and train a team of poll watchers in every county so people can safely and confidently cast their ballot
• Create opportunities to make our Voter Protection work more accessible
• Expand options for all Texas Democrats to be involved in voter protection work
• Create a robust team of volunteers for our Voter Assistance Hotline, ensuring that voters can get the help they need in real time
• Proactively fighting election disinformation to restore faith in our election system and stop the far right attacks on our right to vote

Friend, it’s our job as Texas Democrats to meet folks where they are and ensure our sacred right to vote is protected in 254 counties across Texas. And with the rise of far-right election denialism, the work of our Voter Protection team could not be more important heading into 2024. Texas Republicans know that your vote -- your voice -- can enact real, lasting change in our state, otherwise they wouldn’t try so hard to work against our movement. On Sunday, as we commemorate the 58th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, we honor the freedom fighters that gave everything so the right to vote would be unabridged and unrestricted, my team and I will recommit ourselves to our responsibility of protecting democracy. As I settle into my new role, I can’t help but be inspired by the hard work ahead. Together, we’ll do what it takes to defend democracy, elect Democrats at every level, and make Texas a state to be proud of again.
