Hi Neighbor,

What a week! I hope you’re all staying cool and enjoying the last few weeks of summer.

I got lots of time in the sun this week at one of my favorite events of the year – Farmfest! I was down in Redwood Falls on Wednesday to hear from farmers and producers about what they need in this year’s Farm Bill. I joined a bipartisan Farm Bill Listening Session with some of my colleagues from the House Agriculture Committee and I’m looking forward to bringing what we learned back to Congress with me next month.

American agriculture is the backbone of our economy. The work Minnesota’s family farmers are doing every day will shape our country for generations. We need to make sure to continue the farm safety net as well as those programs that enable farmers to be good stewards of our environment, reach new markets all over the world and support their communities in the next Farm Bill.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to my colleagues who made the trip to Minnesota for this great event.

Here’s what else I was up to this week:

Making Burnsville safer

There have been 100+ accidents over the past six years at the intersection of Nicollet Ave. and Highway 13 in Burnsville – that’s unacceptable. I fought to secure the federal funding needed to improve the safety of that intersection, and on Monday I was in Burnsville to announce that we were successful.

We secured $3 million to make this intersection safer for drivers and pedestrians alike. I’ll keep working to ensure our communities have the tools they need to stay safe. A special thanks to Mayor Elizabeth Kautz and State Rep. Kaela Berg for attending and for all that you do for our community.

Supporting Minnesota law enforcement

On Tuesday I visited the Belle Plaine Police Department to tour the police department and learn more about their expansion needs.

And later that night I stopped by Night to Unite in Prior Lake. We all have a role to play to keep our communities safe and I’ll keep working to be a good partner at the federal level.

Giving back to our nation’s veterans

We had a very special event on Thursday in Inver Grove Heights – the groundbreaking of the Dakota County Veterans Memorial Greenway. It took partnership and collaboration at every level of government – and support from Minnesota veterans – to get this done, and I was honored to see the project come to life this week.

An important reminder for veterans – you could be eligible for new health care and VA benefits under the PACT Act, and if you apply for those benefits by August 9th, your benefits could be backdated to August 10th of last year. Visit va.gov/PACT for more info.

Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig

I love being home in Minnesota with all of you – but it’s also pretty fun to get know this little girl even better. She’s 14 weeks old this week and LOVES meeting new friends. Here’s a pic from our Night to Unite Event this week – thanks, Mayor Briggs! Dakota stole the show!

That’s my update for this week, looking forward to another productive and busy week ahead! Have a great weekend.

Until next time,
