Colonel Charles and JoAnne Powell VA Clinic
In 1995, I was seeking a nomination to the Air Force Academy. Two phenomenal individuals—Charles and JoAnne Powell—guided me through the interview and appilcation process for the Academy. They were both instrumental in my journey to the Academy and subsequent military service, and they showed the same level of care to thousands of other students through the years.
Nearly 30 years later, it is incredibly humbling to have had the opportunity to introduce and pass the legislation renaming the San Angelo VA Clinic in honor of Col. Charles and JoAnne Powell, and this week we celebrated the renaming alongside their beloved family and community leaders.
They are both true American heroes who dedicated their lives to serving our country through a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force, as Commander and "First Lady" of Goodfellow Air Force Base, and later in civilian life when they became two of the most ardent advocates for veterans and military members while JoAnne served this congressional district for more than 35 years. They made San Angelo their home and enriched this community.
Now, every veteran who walks in for care at the Colonel Charles and JoAnne Powell VA Clinic—and every person in the community who drives by—will be a part of the legacy of Charles and JoAnne.
