At the end of June, the Supreme Court issued its long-awaited ruling in Haaland v. Brackeen, deciding that the Indian Child Welfare Act and its controversially unequal treatment of Native American children in child custody disputes survives constitutional scrutiny—for now.

New lawsuit challenges California’s mandatory implicit bias training in healthcare

 

Dr. Azadeh Khatibi, whose first name means “freedom,” was born in Iran and immigrated to the U.S. when she was six. She went on to become an ophthalmology specialist in Los Angeles, never imagining she’d face creeping collectivism and unfree speech in America.

Then, in 2019, California lawmakers passed a chilling new mandate known as AB 241. It requires all continuing medical education courses involving direct patient care to include implicit bias training—regardless of who teaches the course or what is taught.

Forcing physician educators to espouse views favored by the government, however, violates the First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech. Dr. Khatibi is fighting back.
