Carbon-Neutral Nottingham website launched to support city-wide ambition

CN28 website

A new website has been launched by Nottingham City Council to support Nottingham?s ambition to be the first carbon-neutral city in the UK by 2028.

The Earth?s average temperature has increased dramatically over the past century, and 2022 was the UK?s hottest year on record. Tackling the climate crisis is one of Nottingham City Council?s key priorities, and the Carbon-Neutral Nottingham website brings information about what is happening to make the city more sustainable together in one place.

The website aims to offer practical advice and opportunities for residents to reduce their own carbon footprints. There are dedicated sections for each of the nine key themes of the city?s Carbon-Neutral Action Plan ? Buildings, Energy, Transport, Waste, Water, Stuff, Protecting the City, Nature, and Removing Carbon From the Atmosphere.

Get involved with Carbon-Neutral Nottingham

CN28 website (2)

Did you know that the City Council is only responsible for around 3% of Nottingham's carbon emissions?

That's why we want to make it easy for everyone to get involved to reduce their environmental impact. The new Carbon-Neutral Nottingham website explains the seven top actions that you can take to have the biggest impact, and each theme page has a section that lists how you can take action.

There are lots of groups across the city that you can get involved with too, from Nottingham Green Guardians to Ridewise, so take a look at our handy roundup to see if there is an opportunity for you.

Toothbrushing packs to be given out to vulnerable people and families

Flowers

I?m really pleased to hear that, in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, we have secured ?100,000 of ring-fenced funding from NHS England to buy and distribute toothbrushing packs to foodbanks and other organisations in the community, who provide support for vulnerable people and families.

Due to the cost of living crisis, some households are having to make very difficult choices about what they can and cannot buy, and items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste can be seen as less important.

This funding will help us, along with Nottinghamshire County Council, to maintain a continuous supply of oral health products to organisations who help those in financial stress, ensuring people have access to the products they need to support good oral health.
