Citizens for Ethics & Responsibility in Washington

John,

We wanted to say a big, big thank you to everyone who donated to CREW during our July matching campaign, and everyone who continues to read and share our work. We truly wouldn’t be able to do this work without you.

With such tremendous grassroots support, we’re able to keep pushing for accountability and ethics in our government.

Following Donald Trump’s federal indictment for his election attacks leading up to January 6th, CREW President Noah Bookbinder published op-eds in Salon, explaining why this indictment is so momentous. He also explained for MSNBC that Jack Smith’s investigation could help us begin to tame the power of money in politics in our country.

Before that, we released a breaking report revealing that Trump made at least $9.6 million from the Middle East while president—meaning he made 6x his presidential salary from one region of the world alone. We also published answers to frequently asked questions about the “expungement” of Trump’s impeachments that Reps. Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene are pushing. As CREW Executive Vice President and Chief Counsel Donald Sherman told The Washington Post, the efforts provide “no legal or practical effect other than continuing to rewrite history in defense of Donald Trump’s corruption and insurrection.”

Our experts were also recently featured in places like the Fordham Democracy Project explaining how the 14th Amendment’s statute disqualifies insurrectionists from office without requiring a criminal conviction. Bookbinder spoke to a Washington Post columnist previewing Trump's Jan. 6 indictment, and was featured in outlets like Truthout, Salon, TIME and the Los Angeles Times. Our past work remains as relevant as ever, too—MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan pulled a CREW report from February 2021 to highlight that Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump made millions off of Trump’s presidency, and the Fresno Bee accurately pointed out, based on our tracker of Trump’s uncharged crimes, that “If there is any unequal justice, it is in the favor of Trump.”

The rest of this year will bring big fights, especially as we prepare to legally disqualify Trump from office for inciting an insurrection. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way, and we thank you for believing in us to get it done.

We won’t let you down,

CREW
