Hello Indian River Democrats. The big news of the week is Donald J. Trump being arraigned on four counts of conspiracy in the 2020 election investigation. This third indictment of Mr. Trump reveals shocking details about the months-long criminal plot, making it the most serious and significant one so far. It serves as a stark reminder that no one, not even a president, is above the law.

In local news, d
id you hear? Vero Beach Regional Airport is getting $1M in infrastructure grant funds thanks to President Joe Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Once again, our local businesses and travelers benefit from Joe Biden's historic investment in America's infrastructure. Our Congressman Bill Posey voted NO on this bill but Democrats continue to deliver.

SDIRC School Board Update
Thank you Democratic Club of Indian River Secretary, Caryl Zook, who attended the July 24, 2023 SDIRC School Board meeting and provided the following update.

Dr Moore spoke of his commitment to providing “World Class Education” in our community and shared the results of standardized testing that show we are the highest scoring school system on the Treasure Coast.

Several school district support staff spoke about the need for pay raises. Many are working 2-3 jobs. A 78 year old old works full time, is providing meals for the students and also works at Lowe’s.

Jeff Leake spoke on the absurdity of the recent requirements to teach that slaves benefitted from slavery and asks the board how we can support our teachers to teach the whole truths of history. Ed Holmes said students learn they cannot trust educators when they are lied to about our history. He asks that no black educators be forced to teach the governor’s lies about slaves benefitting from slavery. Michael Marsh compared the benefits to slaves w the benefits to concentration camps.

There was a plea for for daily Christian prayer in school.

Moms 4 Liberty communications director insisted they deserve a seat on the diversity committee, comparing themselves to the NAACP.

The Florida Democratic Party announced the launch of its organizing effort and $1M pledge for Voter Registration work in order to take back the state. DeSantis has continuously attacked Florida voting rights, especially for Black and Brown Floridians. Let us not forget the multiple direct voter suppression laws he and his cronies pushed through the State Legislature to silence voters. This statewide tour is an opportunity to directly engage with and organize Florida voters around the true support they need from their Governor and elected officials.

The Democratic National Committee has launched a paid media campaign in Florida to highlight the stakes of the 2024 Presidential election on reproductive freedom. The ads come as MAGA Republican presidential contenders have promised to sign a national abortion ban, despite opposition from 80% of Americans.

TAKE ACTION
Why are Democrats choosing to vote by mail?

"VBM allows me to vote in the privacy of my home where I can research the candidates and ballot measures before casting my vote."

"VBM allows me to avoid waiting in line to vote, and prevents me from missing an opportunity to vote due to unforeseen circumstances on election day."

"It's easy to deposit my VBM ballot in the secure Dropbox at an Early Voting site."

Luckily, signing up to vote by mail only takes a few minutes so be sure to check if your VBM registration has been deleted. ALERT, it has been reported that in some instances, the Supervisor of Elections (SOE) website could not confirm voter registration with the information voters provided. If this happens to you, simply call the SOE office at (772) 226-4700.

Note, All voters are required to make a new VBM request every two years, after every General Election.

Democrats of Indian County also urges voters to sign the
Florida Right to Clean Water petition.

We have petitions available at our office or you can download and print your petition at home.
