John,

On this day four years ago, the city of El Paso was rattled by an act of violence. On the morning of August 3rd, 2019, a white supremacist walked into an El Paso Walmart and took the lives of 23 people, injuring 22 others.

Four years later, there still aren’t enough words to express my grief, anger, and frustration at the pain the people of El Paso have endured.

I want to be clear: White nationalism and xenophobia have no place in Texas.

Hate-driven attacks against communities of color are on the rise. It’s important we have leaders who don’t hesitate to call it like it is, not fan the flames of hate and violence.

As we remember this tragedy and the lives of those we lost, let’s renew our commitment to save lives with common sense gun safety reform that can prevent future tragedies.

Sincerely,

Roland
