Yesterday (Wed, Fed 19th), the Chicago City Council officially passed the Climate Emergency Resolution, declaring a "state of climate emergency" for the City of Chicago and calling for the creation of a climate mobilization initiative.  (Among other advocates, 350 Chicago's own Sylvia Panek was there to give testimony in favor of the resolution.)

350 Chicago applauds the City Council for approving this bold first step to explicitly address climate change through city policy.  We hope this marks the beginning of the City of Chicago's strong leadership on climate policy and that Chicago will prove itself a leader on climate efforts to include full divestment from fossil fuels and the adoption of 100% clean energy.

The 350 Chicago team would like to take this moment to thank everyone who made the resolution a reality including co-sponsors Alderman George Cardenas (12th Ward) and Alderman Matt Martin (47th Ward) and those alderpersons who voted in favor, as well as fellow environmental organizations and allies who have supported and endorsed the resolution.  We would also like to thank Mayor Lori Lightfoot for her post-council meeting comments acknowledging the resolution and its importance.  Last but not least, we are grateful to you and all of the individual climate advocates who supported this effort.

As always, thank you for all you do.
